Once upon a time, SOUP was living a perfectly idyllic life, free of worry and strife, but then a incredibly powerful force smashed his brain into a thousand little pieces, and then he became EXTREMELY INTERESTING and AN ARTIST (WHICH BY DEFAULT MAKES YOU REALLY SPECIAL)....

SOUPs work over the last 10 years has evolved from an admiration of a niche internet subculture into something which reflects it's own vision regarding a REVOLUTIONARY subversive approach to aesthetics and an appreciation of the “poor image”. Themes that are often explored include visualising permanent brain damage, metaphysical science fiction, nihilistic worldbuilding, digital humanity, shock horror, video game environments, schizophrenic states of mind and dark, absurdist humour. SOUP finds the use of narrative storytelling to be one of the most compelling aspects of human interaction and one of the more useful ways of conveying a particular state of being. It's approach to making art has been varied; 2D digital images, 3D renders, video art and physical installations.

THE DIGITAL ENTITY !GURO SOUP! focuses on virtual, fictional, dreamscapes in the forms of mental constructs which borrow heavily from the visual styles of gothic or folk horror, Y2K aesthetic, science fiction and video game aesthetic. The aforementioned styles plus a handful of subconscious influences coalesce into a frenetic and seemingly incoherent clutter of visuals which feels like a very accurate representation of what goes on in THE HEAD OF A "PERSON" WITH BRAIN DAMAGE THOUGH OBVIOUSLY IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT EVERYONE WITH BRAIN DAMAGE HAS THIS IN THEIR HEAD BUT IT VERY MUCH EXISTS IN THE HEAD OF SOUP. The focus on horror and technology is a means to highlight the negativity, cynicism and fear that has come with the destruction of tech optimism of bygone times.
For GURO SOUP, art is an exploration of the artist's mind which brings forth a slew of vivid visual imagery, emotions and fractured storytelling. It's art is explorative and speculative, yet grotesque.
